International Women's Day Celebration

We are all know that 8 March is "INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY." On this day the whole world celebrates this day.Whay we celebrates international women's day on 8th march? The seed of the day was planted in 1908 when 15,000 women marched through New York City demanding shorter working hours, higher pay and the right to vote. On that day, the Socialist Party of America announced the first National Women's Day a year later. The idea to internationalize the day came from a woman named Clara Zatkin.Clara did not set a date for International Women's Day. The day was not formally observed until 1917, when war time  Russian women's strikes demanded 'food and peace'.A four-day women's strike in Russia led to the abdication of the Czar and an interim government to grant women the right to vote.Julian calendar was used in Russia at that time. February 23 was a Sunday in the Julian calendar when the women's strike began. It was March 8 in the Gregorian calendar. So it is celebrated on 8 March.

Similarly, International Women's Day celebration was organized at R.R. Monpara Arts College on 15 March, 2023 due to Dhuleti holiday and another problem.Three women dignitaries and the speaker, ALPA MA'AM PONDA, MEGHA MA'AM TRIVEDI and ARCHANA MA'AM GOHIL were present respecting their valuable time and our invitation. The program was started by the student giving bouquet to the guest.

National Seminar

On 5th March 2023, a National Seminar on research  prospects in English studies organised by Department of English, maharaja KrishnaKumarSinghji Bhavnagar University.

At 8:45 ,I reached seminar's place. Then I confirmed my registration and after sometime took breakfast. And one more thing I am not alone there .I went there with my classmate, senior and junior. The seminar started with the university's song.

The seminar was conceptualized by Alpa Ponda Ma'am and Prukuti Bhatt ma'am.The entire seminar was also conducted by them. The head of English department, Dr.Barad sir framed the whole seminar through a short story. And the dignitaries, who were present there, were welcomed by the students by giving books.

I noticed that in all the educational programs I have attended or participated in till date, dignitaries are welcomed by the principal and teachers of the school if it is a school and by the principal and professor of the college if it is a college. But the dignitaries who came to this seminar were welcomed by the students which can also be called a kind of change.

There were three key notes speakers of these seminar. First one was Dr. Aviishek parui from department of Humanities and social science,Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, India. He was not present the but he joined  online. His topic was about memory studies.

he also referred,

    - David laudge's book consciousness and the novel

    - Joseph Leduox and his book Anxious

               According to Leduox,

     - what you remember is last remember version of the event

      - Anxiety is price the human being has to pay for his ability to anticipate the future.

Second keynot speaker was Dr. Balaji Rangnathan. Central University of Gandhinagar, Gujarat. His topic was about "The problem of post colonial studies with Chinese literature. "

Third  keynote speaker was Dr. Atanu Bhattacharya. Professor/chairperson of centre for English studies, School of language, literature and culture studies,Central University of Gujarat. He topic was no "Research prospects in English studies: The Technology Turn." He referred grammar topic: active and passive.  He also referred many books:

     - Palestine- Joe Saccd

     -  Persepolis

     - River of stories

     - Of love and other Monsters

Around 12:30 to 1:30, we took lunch. Everything was were well organised by department of English. After lunch break, there were parallel session of presentations. P.G. students, research scholars, Assistant professors presented research paper.

We had attended Vipul sir's presentation. His topic for presentation was "Arvind Adiga's Last main in Tower." As per my understanding it was about by quote Acadamia is dying. It was wonderful presentation by Sir.

After Sir's  presentation, we had attended another presentations. The topic of presentations were about Feminism , film studies, Hindu Muslim love marriage, casteism , eligility IQ etc. The session were conducted by Trushali Dodiya and her classmate. During this session chairperson was Dr. Sunita Nimavat. Her nature was very polite and calm.

Our ma'am, Vaidehi ma'am also participated in poster making competition.Unfortunately we didn't attend her presentation.

At 4:30, there was validactory ceremony . A vote of thanks was.done by Dilip Barad sir who gave the prasentations and present there. Certificates were given to all presenter and attender. It was such a fruitful session for us. We learnt so many current topics which is going around us.

And one very important thing is that some of the topics presented by the presenter in this seminar and some books mentioned by Dr. Atanu Bhattacharya were discussed during the class lectures. And we were aware of these topics little by little and credit goes to Vipul sir.

Normally, if we attend any program, the program starts later than the given time and ends later or earlier than the given time. But I attended this seminar at the given time   program started and intermediate sessions started at the same time as scheduled and finished at the given time which is a learning point from department of English.

Special thanks to Vipul Sir and Vaidehi Madam who made us aware of this seminar. And due to which we got to know new information which is very important for us in future. Again thanks a lot both of you.

ONE DAY TOUR HASTAGIRI

"Certainly, travel is more than the seeing of sights; it is a change that goes on, deep and permanent,in the ideas of living." - Miriam  Beard.

         Hastgiri  Picnic

one-day tour was organized by R. R.  Monpara Arts College on February 8, 2023. And it was the first chance to stay with our senior, professor and principal from morning to evening. Also it was memorable  fertile and fruitful day.

We reached the college at 6.45 am and then waited for another student to come. Our journey started around 8 am  by bus . Took students from different places on the way.We were allotted the front seat as the number of girls was less.

Around 9 am we stopped for breakfast at Bordidhar. For breakfast we were served jalebi - gathiya  and chai. The place was peaceful and beautiful. I liked that place very much. We took photos, shot videos and left for Hastagiri.

Around 11.30 we reached Hastigiri. We took photos there. And then visited Derasar. But photography of Derasar was forbidden. I wondered why they didn't have to take photos. If photos are allowed, other people who cannot go there can also get information by looking at the photos.

The carvings of Derasar were amazing. The entire Derasar was made from marble stone. And the atmosphere there was also very calm. There was also a lot of cleanliness. We also took a group photo outside Derasar.

We reached one place. Where lunch was made. We helped in making lunch. But the cooking aunty was very good natured so she refused us. Because that seemed to be their duty. Do not seek help from others until you can do it yourself. Then we served food. And took lunch with Mam.  We also play garba  with mam,sir and our principle . We left that place and then reach at Taleti where some of us do shopping and we wandered around and ate pani-puri and come back at bus. At last we danced for while. Around 9 we reached back at college.

When I came to know that our Principal Dr. Ashish Sir Chauhan is coming with us, I felt that we have to be disciplined and follow the rules. He made us laugh a lot, played garba with us. Usually, I thought they were quiet and strict in college but I was proved wrong.

We went to see the majestic and beautiful Derasar where humans were forbidden to take shelter. And after five hours came to the small hut. Even though the hut was small but Baba who lived in it had a big heart who sheltered us and provided us with the necessary things.

It was another pleasure to spend those five hours without smoke, noise of vehicles and without any kind of disturbance. In that calm environment we also heard the chirping of birds. And spent those hours with great patience, gentleness and cooperation. We also enjoyed playing Garba in that calm atmosphere. Our principal and professors also played garba with us.

After that, after visiting the Taleti, we left to come back. In the bus we sang songs, danced and had a lot of fun.

Thank you so much Dr. Ashish sir , Vipul sir , Vaidehi Ma'am,  Komal ma'am and Twinkal ma'am to support us. And special thanks to Vipul sir and Ashish sir to organized this picnic.

ONE DAY BLOOD DONATION CAMP

           ONE DAY BLOOD   DONATION  CAMP

" The gift of blood is a gift to                                      someone's life. "

" One hour and you can save three                           lives with your blood. "

On 11th January 2023, one day blood donation camp was organised by Matrusi Ratanben Ramjibhai Monpara Arts College(R.R.Monpara) with the inspiration of B.A. T.Y. English students with the tireless efforts of Vipul sir and Vaidehi ma'am with the support of Dr Ashish sir Chauhan, who is a principal of our college. Students and professors of B.SC , Bcom and B.Ed were also supported in this camp. A total of 83 persons donated blood in this camp.

I wanted to donate blood but couldn't because of low hemoglobin in my body and I regret is a lot. Next time I will be physically able to donate blood. I helped as much as I could in this camp and I am glad for that.

I learned a lot from this camp which started from eight in the morning till one in the afternoon. The first thing is that every person should be physically and mentally fit. Follow the rules as stated. And how to be helpful to others.

The important thing is that  even I used to be very afraid of seeing blood and needle which hass reduced that day. And I got to know the process to ho through to donate blood. Many students donated blood but only one girl in our arts department was able to donate blood, her name is Dhatri Parmar, who is studying in T.Y. English and she proved that women are inclusive of men. What a man can do, a woman can do.

Our sir days, If you visit city hospital once, you will know the value of blood. I request people who consume alcohol, eat gutka, smoke cigarettes and do other addictions to stop. They ruin their own life but also ruin the lives of people around them. So I request all Indians not to get addicted.

Dr. Ashishsir Chauhan, Vipul Sir, Vaidehi Ma'am  thank you all very much and special thanks to Dharti didi.

Many thanks to those who  have donated blood.

               Thank you.

Tell It Not In Gath

 Tell It Not In Gath

The play, Tell It Not In Gath is written by Joe Corrie . It is an Irony on the tinsel nature of bourgeois values. The play tries to unveil the hypocritical facade of moral superiority adopted by the pillars of society.

The Reverend Arthur Welsey is holding a meeting with some os his chief parishioners to discuss the rampant betting now going on a amongst the mining families in the area. Sam Garden , who is the local Church warden and grocer suggests Arthur  puts in an official complaint butbAethur believes Sam should take care of this matter.

         About Author :

Joe Corrie was born on May 13,1894 in Slamannan, Stirlingshire. And died on November 13,1968 in Edinburgh.

He was a Scottish miner, poet and playwright best known for his radical, working class plays. His family  moved to Cardenden in the fife coalfied when Corrie was still an infant  and he started work at the pits in 1908.

               His Work:

1. The Image O'God and other poems (1927)
2. Rebel poems (1932)
3. Scottish pride and other poems (1955)

                  Questions:

Question:  1 : Discuss the title of the play. It is appropriate?
Answer:
"Tell It Not In Gath"  Is appropriate title for this play.

At the beginning of the play, we see Arthur and Marjory(Mrs Welsey) have a verbal spat. But they pretend to be happy when the council members come. Besides, miss Oliver, miss Crundle , Joseph Devinish,Sam Marden being council members, they have their own personal business which is not known to the people of the Gath.

Although a member of  the council  , Miss Crundle  have own  a Profiteering  Red Hotel Lion business and also runs an illegal business in her hotel. Devinish goes to church every Sunday and sings in the choir, but he get little profit from It and he is a black- marketer.

As the play progresses, Marjory enters with gusto. She reveals that Sam Marden has won twenty thousand pounds on football coupon. Marden is shocked as he is caught red-handed in front of all the members. However, he changes his behavior as he is now a rich person.  And Arthur and Marden have a discussion and Marden revels the secret of all the community members  of the Gath.

And Marjory arrives at the end of the play. She informs her husband  that actually Marden does not get a single money. He didn't win that football coupon.Actually I won that football coupon. I won 20,000 pounds for a shilling only. And finally Arthur relents and kisses Marjory. But to tell Gath about this  or not.....?   So this title is appropriate for this play.

Question: 2
Write a note on the themes of the play.
Answer:
The themes of the play are as follows:

Public life and private life:

At the beginning of the play, Arthur is seen reading a book and Marjory  is knitting. Arthur tells Marjory that there is a meeting held at the rectory. Sam Marden  got a call while you were out. Marjory said that you kept the meeting here without asking me. Marjiry criticize Arthur bitterly about his profession. Here the author shows the private life of both.

When miss Oliver,  miss Crundle, Sam Marden and Joseph Devinish artive at the house, Marjory and Arthur  forget their  quarrel and greet them pretending to be happy. Hear the author shows the public life of both of them.

Situation of a married woman:

From the setting of the play, we get an idea of the situation of a married woman. On the back wall are portraits of the Reverend Arthur Welsey 's parents. His mother  looks as though she has lived her whole life as a victim of poverty due to church life and the same is happening to Marjory.

At the beginning of the play, Arthur Welsey is seen reading a book and   Marjory is knitting,  Indicating that the Men should do the academic work and the women should do domestic work.

As the play progresses,  Arthur tells Marjory about the council meeting. The meeting is held at Marjory's house without being asked and so she argues with Arthur. So Arthur is told her,"  I this you flouting my wishes again,  Marjory? "- From this It can be said that a woman should sacrifice her on happiness and honor to maintain the desire and honor of the man.

Marjory is fed up with her life of drudgery as they cannot afford a servant. She thinks that his Church was in the way of their happiness. Even the miners earn more than her husband. Their  wives are not " enslaved to their work." Her Desire is "to get free of the church and be a thousand miles from her." The same was true of her husband, if he could " be honest about it."

Who is more evil? Common people  or Rich people. (Coal miners or Community members. )

According to me, rich people areore evil than common people. Because common people run their house by working hard and play games like gambling for their entertainment with their earned money. When rich people open factories but  the common people who were in It. They get success only from common people.  But they plan to take action against the common people. The do not see that it is because of them that they have reached this place. While the common people gamble, the rich people organize a meeting to make a case against the common people. And in the Coal miners are spoiling the atmosphere by playing gambling.

         "Justice, policy, to the poor,
          Forgiveness to the great;
          A tiger killed a man,
          What justice in that..? "

Question:  3
Money is a dominant Motive in human affairs. prove it.
Answer:
There are many example in the play that shows that money is a dominant Motive in human affairs.

At the beginning of the play, Marjory tells Arrhur that she is not happy In this Church. And also said Arthur's profession, she says that, husband  who works in coal maine earns more than you.

As the play progresses, Marjory arrives at the.meeting and says that John, the
Sexton has said that Sam Marden has won twenty thousand pounds in foot ball coupon. Hence Marden gets into tha air and his speaking style also changes. He becomes more arrogant and tells Arthur that  you need a church " all badly."   I agree with that, but it will be years and years before you raise the money to build it, for you ain't livin' in a generous village. But I'll make it easier for you. If you do not mind, by writin' out a cheque for a thousand pounds.  Now, wot do you think of that, eh? A  thousand pounds. But on one condition, and that the matter is reported in the press. Sam Marden wants to leave Little Padley with the folk blessing 'im for 'is generosity.

In this way when money comes to a person, he forget to know his nature and the respect of others and start wandering around in suspicion of money.

And at the end of the play Marjory  tells Arthur that She won twenty thousand pounds for a shilling only , not Sam Marden. Arthur wants to file a case against the gambling coal miners but after listening to his wife and brainstorming,  he is happy and agree with her. And he thinks whether to say this in Gath or not.

Hence, it can be said that when money comes, a man gives up his integrity and gives more importance to money.

Question: 4
Write a character sketch of Arthur Welsey.
Answer:
The Reverend Arthur Welsey is a sixty years old priest.Who seems unhappy and discontented throughout the play. His wife name is Marjory.Usually he behaves like a hero of the play.  His job is to preach people.

Arthur some how fails to reach spiritual growth and now he feels that he is also failing as a preacher  of the church. Besides,  in my opinion,  Arthur also failed to be a good husband. Because his wife says to him that the income of rhe husband who works in coal mine is more than your income. They do not keep their wife as a slave.

When Marjory tells Arthur that you can afford a servant for your work and not for my  housewotk. Then Arthur says that what will the society say? That the owner of the rectory doing  work himself. But he doesn't think about his wife's happiness.

Also he agrees to sue the gambler but is unwilling to sue himself and says, " I have been devoting a good deal of my time trying to  make friends with these new people of the mining industry in the hope that I may persuade them to come to my church. If I complain to the police about their  - er - gambling activity,  will they respect me for it? You must remember that they will be no less queer to me than they would be to you. "

Arthur is very concerned about his honor and respect. At the end of the play ,Marjory inform Arthur that in actually Marden does not get a single penny , because football coupon won by Marjory herself. And at the end, Arthur puts a smile on his fave and shows his love for Marjory by kissing her.

Question:  5
Who is the most honest character in the play, according to you?  Give reason for your answer.
Answer:
According to me , Marjory (mrs.Welsey) is the most honest character I the play. And her honestly is rooted in her loyalty to her husband.

She is the wife of  Arthur Welsey . She is some years younger than her husband. Normally we find her knitting.  According to me , she is  a obedient wife of hee husband. To maintain her husband's honor and respect,  ahe keepsthefire lit in the small room and stay room during the meeting even though it is very cold. She is bitter about her husband's business but obeys him.

At the end of the play, Marjory reveals to her husband that she had put money in betting and as a result of is she wins twenty thousand pounds for a shilling only.  This act of her shows that she is more practical than her husband. So Marjory is the most honest character in the play.

Question:  6
If you are given the chance to develop this play further,  what scenes will you add?
Answer:
If I am given a chance to develop this play further,  I will add the following scenes:

Marjory tells Arthur about the money ahe won. Then Marjory and Arthur leave  Gath.Even The people of Gath do not know where these two have gone. Again Marjory y bets  and win 25,000 pounds. After winning the money Marjory tells Arthur that  if we use this money which I won to build a school to teach coal miners. At least if the wives of miners do not live like me ,they can lead a happy life.

Marjory and Arthur build a school  in Gath. Devinish was chosen ass the music  teacher there. But Arthur and Marjory do not let know the people of Gath that they built the school. By starting school and getting an education,  coal miners stops gambling and starts living a happy  life. People of Gath think that who built this school. ....?

                   Thank you

JAY BHIM MOVIE REVIEW

    JAY BHIM MOVIE

Jay Bhim movie is a story of a lawyer who fights for the land rights to tribal people. Jai Bhim (Victory to Bhim) is a 2022 Indian Tamil language drama film written and directed by T. J .Gnanavel .Produced by Jyotika and Suriya.

The film s set in the southern Indian sate of TamilNadu and based on events that occurred at Muthanai village, Cuddalore district, in 1993. Sengani's character is based on Parvathy.who fought an uphill battle to get justice fir her husband Rajakannu. They belonged to the Kuravar tribe, whose members are mostly agricultural workers. Rajakunnu was arrested by the police at Cuddalore Kammapuram police station. He was beaten to death. Cops claimed he escaped from prison. Sengeni seeks the help of an advocate Chandru to seek justice  for her husband.

                        Cast:

Adv. Chandru:  a lawyer who fights cases for tribal communities.

Sengeni Rajakannu: a tribal women who wants justice for her missing husband.

Rajakannu: Sengeni 's husband who dies in police custody.

Alli Rajakannu: Sengeni and Rajakannu's daughter.

Mythra: an adult teacher for the Irula tribe.

IG Perumalsamy: the lead officer of the case.

Ram Mohan: Advocate general .

DGP Radha krishnan

Irutappan: Rajakannu's brother.

Mosakutty: Rajakannu's  brother in law.

SI Gurumoorthy: a casteist cop and one of the murderers.

Head Constable Veerasamy:  one of the murderers.

Constable Kirubakaran: one of the murderers.

The film opens with the depiction of the caste chasm in society with the police asking  surnames of prisoners to decide whom to release only upper and intermediate-caste prisoners are released under pressure to nab the culprits of several pending cases, the police scapegoat the prisoners belonging to the lower castes.

As the movie progresses, T.J.Gnanavel also gets it right is the manner in which Dalits and people from tribal communities are exploited for their labour. Rajakannu earns a living by making bricks for his oppressors, but he cannot build a house for himself.  He is called on every time there are rodents and snakes in the fields but isn't allowed to touch or strike a conversation with a dominant caste member. He gets shooed away by a lady, when he says they come from the same village.

The uper castes habitually insult and discriminate against them, which they usually shrug off and move on. We seem them struggle to get papers from the government. " We ask him for one paper and he is asking us for three". Jokes one of them after being refused a caste  certificate because they don't have ration card, voter ID, aadhar card and si on! . The film goes through several such everyday indignities, without a sense os outrage, perhaps priming us for what's to come.

In another scene, Advocate Chandru leaving his political movement, to take action and bring justice. He jumps over the barriers and moves straight  into the court. The message is clear: It's fine to protest, but we can make the real difference through our most potent weapon, which is the law. Action counts more than words. Chandru explain us clearly.

    "  It's a battle for equal rights. "

" Reclaim the power; justice is gor all".

In another scene, advocate Chandru is shown participating in a program where children dress up as prominent Indian leaders." All the important leaders like Gandhi and Nehru, are here. How come only Ambedkar isn't here?" he remarks.

When jewellery is stolen from  sarpanch's house. Rajakannu, Irutappen, Mosakutty are falsely arrested and beaten up. Then , with the help of Mythra, Sengeni comes to Chandru for help. And Chandru disproved the witnesses produced by the police in the court. And request  the court to CBI but finally hand over the case to IG Perumalsamy.

Perumalsamy realises Chandru's point. To change Perumalsamy's mind, Chandru doesn't use violence but the power of words again. Advocate Chandru brings officer perumalsamy to meet with all the " Untouchable" victims of the corrupted policeman. Those witnesses  more Perumal- samy's soul. And fortunately, Perumalsamy takes  the rights decision because of his duties and responsibilities to protect human right and democracy. But it is not an easy choice because Perumalsamy is going against the whole system, risking his position ,money and his own life.

Apart from this, there is a sence in the movie where DGP orders his subordinate police officers to drop the pregnants Sengeni back to her house in their Jeep.  The jeep follows  Sangeni to her house requesting her to sit in the jeep. These scene  highlight the authority of the court and the system in which crores of people believe even today.

" Beyond words of support to justice, the court's silence towards injustice is more dangerous."

When Rajakannu was suffering the pains caused by  the policeman, his brother suggested that he tell a lie and admit the crime to be free after a while. Perhaps this is the easiest solution, but not the right one and Rajakannu remind his brother that the wounds will heal, but the stamp as thieves will remain forever.

And the same about Sengeni when the police offer her money in exchange for silence. She proudly refuses, risking everything in the name of her husband and justice.  But also to provide a genuine model role to her babies. This is a symbol that money is not important in their life but their self respect and their family is important. when money is given importance in today's Modern era.

"  justice denied to a victim can create more damage then injustice suffered by them".

Towords the end of the movie, advocate Chandru in his closing arguments in front of the court says," what the court will give is not mereba judgement, but hope."  The courts today need to keep this in their minds that all those who are voiceless consider the courts as their voice; you are the last hope for all those who are languishing in jails framed under false charges.

In the end of the movie, Chandru with his tireless efforts and help of the IG Perumalsamy  brings justice to Sengeni and the tribal people. And SI Gurumoorthy,  head constable Veerasamy and constable Kirubakaran arrest by police.
